ITINERARY
Doi Inthanon, at 8,500 feet above sea level is the highest peak in Thailand. It’s located 105 km from Chiang Mai and its National Park is one of the most fertile natural treasure troves in all of Chiang Mai province.
The invigorating mountain air and the fresh, cool climate make it a rejuvenating break from the city. It is very popular among bird watchers where more than 400 species have been reported. On this tour we visit a Karen hilltribe village, Mae Kland and Wachiratharn Waterfalls, the twin Chedis built by the Royal Thai Air Force to honour their Majesties King Bhumibol and Queen Sirikit, and the summit, where you will find the shrine of Chao Inthawitchyanon, the former Prince of Chiang Mai. We will have a short trek in the Park along ‘Michael’s Trail’ that is a beautiful and unforgettable experience. Lunch on this tour is served at a local restaurant.

08.30 Lying south of Chiang Mai, the granite mass of Doi Inthanon, at 8,500 feet above sea level, is the highest mountain in the country. Doi Inthanon is the tail of Himalaya mountain range.Designated as a national park, the moist natural environment is a paradise for birds as it has almost 400 species, animals, flowers and fauna.
10.00 After a final steep climb, the summit is surprisingly flat though misty, cool and breezy. Visit the pagodas built in honor of their Majesties the King and Queen.
The magnificent Chedi completed in 1989 to honor the 60th birthday of King Bhumipol. A visitors’ centre contains information in Thai and English. A small chedi above the visitors’ center contains the remains of Chao Inthawichayanon the last independent ruler of Chiangmai, who died in 1897, after which the Kingdom of Lanna was incorporated into Siam.
13.00 Lunch at restaurant
** Enjoy the cool cascading waters of Mae Klang or Vachiratharn waterfalls. Visit a Karen hill tribe village at Baan Sop Had.
** The drive up to the top of the mountain is exhilarating. Sweaters or warm jackets should be taken along as it can be cold at the top*
